For sale is an antique, most likely 18th century, primitive wrought iron peel or paddle with a ram's head handle that I have had for quite a few years. It measures about 41" long, and the paddle itself is about 7 3/4" x 5 1/2". It is in very primitive antique condition, with overall rust and signs of use visible on the paddle. Lg. 17 1/2" L.19th C. PA. Tulip Design Band Box

For sale is a wonderful antique 19th century folk art band box that I acquired a few years ago in Ohio, but that I'm fairly certain was made in Pennsylvania. It has a wonderful painted tulip design, and the sides are attached with thin strips of wood. It was also constructed with tiny pegs, as well as nails added over the years. The box measures about 17 1/2" long, 8 1/2" wide, and 5 7/8" tall. It is in nice, but antique condition, with craquelure on the tulips, age and use related wear, but it displays very well. There is a tight crack across the top of the lid, but it is very straight, so I don't know for sure if the lid was made in 2 pieces or if it actually is a crack. Rare 19th C. Temperance Pattern Crib/Youth Quilt

For sale is a wonderful, and I believe rather rare, antique late 19th century crib or youth quilt in what I think is a temperance pattern. It came from Pennsylvania, and is hand pieced, hand quilted, and hand bound in terrific old fabrics. It is filled with cotton, and measures about 48" x 44 1/2". It is in very nice antique condition, with a bit of very minor surface dirt, and a couple of areas of fading on the back, but no holes, rips, stains, or repairs. For sale are 4 antique tin figural cookie cutters that include a horse in the grass, a rooster, a rabbit, and a perched bird. All have strap handles, and range in size from 3 3/4" t 4" tall. All are in nice antique condition, with an aged patina, minor rust, and a dent/wrinkle or 2. It should also be noted that the solder is a bit loose at the top of the perched bird. but the image is still fairly solidly in place. 4 Antq. Cookie Cutters-Rabbit, Dog, Horse, Turkey

For sale is a wonderful group of antique tin figural cookie cutters including a rabbit on its haunches, a running dog, a trotting horse, and a turkey. All are flatback pieces except the horse. I believe all but the turkey were made in Pennsylvania, but the turkey is marked "Made in Germany" with the number 235 above. They range in size from about 3 3/8" to 5 5/8" tall, and are in nice, but antique condition with an aged patina and minor rust. There is also a spot of green paint on the back of the rabbit, and a slight separation on the cutting edge of the turkey where the ends meet. For sale is a wonderful group of 4 antique Pennsylvania handmade folk art tin cookie cutters that I have had for several years, All are flatback cutters, although the tulip did have a handle at one time. In addition to the tulip, there is a really folky leaping rabbit, as well as 2 birds, one with very large tail feathers, and the other probably depicting a rooster, and again, both are very folky, They range in size from 3 3/4" to 4 1/4" tall, and are in nice antique condition with a terrific dark patina, although the tulip is solid but quite rusty in appearance. Antique Cherry Miniature Blanket Chest

For sale is an antique miniature blanket chest that I acquired in Utah. I believe that it is made of cherry wood, although I'm not an expert on wood, so I'm not completely sure. The piece has very nice form, is hand dovetailed, and has parts of the original locking mechanism. It measures about 13" long, 6 3/4" wide, and 8 3/8" tall, and is in nice antique condition with a few minor imperfections on the lid, and a layer of varnish that was probably added later. 19th C. Miniature Basket in Original Bittersweet

For sale is a terrific antique late 19th century primitive handmade miniature basket in original bittersweet paint that came from Ohio. I know that it is a bit hard to see the paint color, but I have tried to show it in picture 4. This is a very delicate basket, and the inside is unpainted. It measures about 6" tall including the handle, 5 3/4" long, and 5 1/4" wide, and is in nice antique condition, with surface dirt, particularly on the interior, as well as some fading on the paint, as you can see that the paint is brighter on the bottom. For sale is a fabulous antique dough bowl that came from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Information indicated that it dates anywhere from 1820-1840, and is made of cherry wood that has been painted in an amber color using buttermilk based paint. The bowl measures about 13" in diameter and 3" deep, and is in nice antique condition, being slightly out of round, and having a wonderful aged patina, as well as a 2 5/8" stable crack on one side. For sale is a fabulous antique folk art wall hanging candle box that originally came from a horse farm in Strasburg, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. I has a very primitive painted horse on the front and decorative concentric circle designs on the front, sides, and even on the back. It is at least partially made with handmade screws and nails, and there are handmade holes that form a circle on the back, as well as a horizontal line straight across the bottom. In addition, on the interior, there is a handwritten date of 1887. The box measures about 11" tall, 12 1/4" wide, and 4 1/4" deep, and is in wonderful antique condition, with an aged patina, great craquelure, and no signs of restoration or other issues. For sale is a wonderful antique sewing roll-up huswif that I believe is Shaker, and is made of shagreen and pink and black checked silk that has been in my collection for several years. It has a pocket at the top that is decorated with a pink and white silk bow, there is a rectangular pin keep below that, as well as 2 layers of wool felt for needles. In addition, on one layer there is a sweet poem that says "No rose with Mary can compare, Give me thy heart, and I'll live there." The piece has a brown silk tie, and is bound with some kind of brown fabric/seam binding. For sale is a very sweet antique folk portrait of a young girl that appears to be playing "school" with her dog, as she is holding an alphabet book, and the dog is wearing a dunce cap. The girl also holds some sticks and/or leaves. I believe that it is English based on the information on the back of the painting, which I believe says "Rev. Archibald Boyd, Curation (?) Derry, Afterwards Dean of Exeter, Uncle of Bishop B.C." The framed piece measures about 6 1/2" x 6" with sight measurements of 3 3/4" x 3 1/4". Although it displays well, it must be noted that it is in pieces, and you can see slight gaps where it has been put together, but nothing is missing. Tiny 19th C. Bonnet Top Doll Cradle w/Litho Design

For sale is a very dear and tiny antique 19th century folk art doll cradle that came from New York state. It is made of cigar boxes, and on the back of the interior there is a lithograph scene that depicts a river or other body of water somewhere in Asia. On one side are the words "Factory No. 8, 3d Dist. N.Y. 50". On the back, there appears to be hand written information that says "Sept . 14, 1894, Good????" Unfortunately, I can't quite make out the rest. The cradle measures about 7 3/4" long, 4" tall, and 3 3/4" wide from the rockers, and is in nice antique condition with a warm aged patina, but no significant flaws. For sale is a very dear and well used antique seed or ditty bag that came from New England. It is treadle machine sewn using pale blue striped fabric with a floral design, and rather than a drawstring, a piece of the fabric has been cut into a strip that wraps around the top of the bag. In addition, there is a tag sewn onto one side with some writing that I can't completely make out, although I believe that it says "Richard Wolf, Maker" near the bottom, all written in sepia ink. John Webster's Needlepoint Wallet Dated 1868

For sale is a terrific antique man's needlepoint wallet with the name John Webster, and the year 1868. I acquired it from a sale in Massachusetts, and the piece may have been made by his wife or daughter, although I can't verify that. There are other flourishes including what looks like an anchor on the lower left, and the piece is bound and lined with red silk. 19th C. American Folk Art Painted Pine Wall Box

For sale is a terrific antique 19th century primitive folk art wall box that I acquired from a sale in Virginia. It is made of American yellow pine, has naively carved "sunflowers" on the front with the initials "F.G." The hanger portion is in the form of a leaf with added flourishes, and the entire box is painted a very dark teal green that looks gray in the pictures. In addition, the box has 2 sections, although I'm not sure of the purpose. The box measures about 6 5/8" tall including the hanger, 8 1/2" long, and 3 1/2" deep, and is in nice, but rather primitive antique condition, with paint wear, and rust around the nails and what look like tacks on the back. Included in this group are a little boy in a formal suit with a cape that is cut and hand drawn using crepe paper, a little girl in blue whose skirt is made from a tiny doily with embroidery, and another little girl, actually an angel, dressed in blue fur trimmed winter garb with crepe paper at the bottom. The tallest is about 7" tall not including the silver tinsel hanger, and the smallest is about 4 1/2" tall not including the hanger. All are in nice antique condition, although the angel is missing the tip of her left wing, most of the right wing gone, as well as a tape repair on the back. For sale is a very sweet antique turned treenware box with a mustard yellow lacquered finish that came from a sale in Virginia. There is an inscription on the bottom that says "Presented to J. F. Kleppinger, by M.F. Danner, on July the 21st, 1888". It has a mirror on the inside of the lid, so it may have been for some type of makeup, or possibly it's a patch box, although I don't think they were used much by the 1880's. For sale is an antique 19th century Pennsylvania folk art fraktur that was formerly in the collection of Jo and Jim Adams of York, PA. It has a central 10 petal flower, and is flanked by other flowers that look to be budding. The piece is housed in what could be the original frame with the original metal loop at the top, and measures about 10" x 6 3/4" with sight measurements of 7 1/4" x 4". It is in nice, but antique condition, with toning and minor stains, and it looks like it may have been part of a larger piece at one time. Still the colors are wonderful, and it is worthy of display. It should also be noted that it was removed from the frame for examination, and acid free backing was added before placing it back in the frame, and of course, the paper backing is new. For sale is a terrific antique primitive folk art hanging chip carved wall box that I acquired in Boise, Idaho. It is carved in a sort of Pennsylvania Dutch radials design, with other flourishes, although I don't know whether it was made in that area or not. It is divided into 2 sections, and measures about 9 1/4" long, 4 1/2" tall from the middle of the back, and 5" deep, and is in nice antique condition, with a warm aged patina, as well as other minor signs of age, but no significant issues. It should be noted, however, that there apparently was a lid at one time, as there is a small hole on one side where there used to be a wooden pin, and on the other side the pin broke off. Large Antique Painted Hide Mooing Cow Pull Toy

For sale is a wonderful and fairly large size antique painted hide covered mooing cow pull toy that I have had for several years. I purchased it from a well known dealer in Provo, Utah. The cow has glass eyes, leather ears, what I believe are composition horns and udders, and there is a black painted fabric collar with a metal buckle around its neck. For sale is what I think is a rather unusual antique painted bucket that came from New England. It is painted primarily a barn red with indigo wooden strapping around the bottom. There are 2 large holes on each side, but it doesn't really look as if there was ever a handle, although I don't know. For sale is a wonderful antique 19th century French petit point that depicts 2 hunting dogs that I acquired in Boise, Idaho. It appears to be a small sort of doily as there is crochet work all the way around completed in metallic thread. The piece is housed in its original frame which indicates that it was done in Paris. The framed piece measures about 10 3/8" x 8 3/8" with sight measurements of 9 1/2" x 7 1/2". The piece itself is about 8" x 6". The composition is in nice antique condition, with a couple of light spots below the petit point, minor wear on the frame, and part of the label missing on the back, but no really significant flaws. For sale is an very dear, and I believe rare, antique ca. 1830's40's folk art velvet theorem young girl holding a basket of flowers paper doll that I acquired in Nashville, Tennessee. For sale is a wonderful vintage Pennsylvania folk art watercolor fraktur that depicts a pair of roosters. There is a stylized tulip above one rooster, a different stylized flower above the other, and what I believe is a very stylized tree in between them. 19th C. British Silhouette of Boy w/Riding Crop

For sale is a wonderful antique British silhouette of a boy holding a riding crop with provenance that I acquired recently. According to information on the back, as well as additional information provided by the seller, it depicts Arthur Campbell Bulkey Praed (1846-1901) of London. His father, John Praed (1799-1876), was an English first-class cricket player. The silhouette is cut paper with painted details, and is housed in an antique, possibly the original frame. The framed piece measures about 6 5/8" x 5", with sight measurements of 5 5/8" x 4". The image alone is about 5 3/4" x 2 1/2". The silhouette is in very nice antique condition, with very light overall toning, and minor wear on the frame, but no significant flaws. It should be noted that the piece was removed from the frame for examination, and acid free backing was placed inside before a new paper backing and wire hanger were added. Antq. 1831 Elizabeth Hollis Sampler w/Birds, Dogs+

For sale is a really charming antique folk art dated 1831 sampler that was made by Elizabeth Hollis aged 9 years. Although I certainly don't know for sure, I think that it could be American, and was completed on homespun linen. Images include birds, dogs, and flowers, trees, etc., but what I really love is the birdcage at the bottom. In addition, it has a triangle border, and 3 different versions of the alphabet, one also including the numbers 1 through 12. It is housed in what could be the original bird's eye maple with the original very wavy glass. Antique Primitive Hanging Box w/Towel Bar & Birds

For sale is a unique antique primitive folk art hanging box with a towel bar that came from Massachusetts, and may have been made there, although I can't completely verify that. I believe it may have held books or magazines, and what makes it special are the cutout birds at the top, as well as what look like 1/2 heart cutouts at the bottom. It is painted primarily robin's egg blue with teal panels on the sides, and there are what appear to be small sun designs stamped on the front, all of which appear to be original. In addition, it is primarily constructed with hand cut nails, and although the back is plywood, the rest of the wood isn't standard size, which would most likely indicate nice age. The piece measures about 15 1/2" tall, 15 3/4" wide, and 3 7/8" front to back, and is in antique rather primitive condition, appearing to have been in a barn for a long period of time, with significant paint wear and surface dirt, as well as an area near the bottom where it looks like a rodent may have gnawed on it. Vintage Primitive Spice Cabinet in Old Blue Paint

For sale is a wonderful vintage, possibly antique, primitive 8 drawer spice cabinet that I acquired in Missouri. It is primarily painted a light robin's egg blue color, and has sort of mushroom shaped knobs on the drawers. It has birds, hearts, and a maple leaf that have been carved out of mother-of-pearl, and on the bottom front there is an intricate inlaid geometric design. In addition, there is a storage drawer on the underside that is held in place with brass spring action stops on each of the narrow sides. The double cushion is dark brown velvet. For sale is a wonderful antique quilt made for a poster bed in a North Carolina Lily pattern according to information that came with it. I purchased it from a collection in Vermont, and it is hand pieced, hand quilted in a diamond grid pattern, hand bound in charming calico print fabrics, and is filled with cotton. There are 2 cards that came with it, one stating the most recent owner, which was Sarah Dopp of So. Burlington, VT. The other card/tag states the name Katherine E. Dopp of So. Burlington, as well as a note stating that it was made by Electa Thankful Warner in the mid 19th century. The quilt measures about 88" x 84", and is in nice antique condition, with no holes, rips, or repairs, although there is an area of light toning as well as a couple of light spots near the bottom. The mortar has a sort of pedestal bottom, and measures about 7 1/4" tall, 4 7/8" in diameter on the top, and 4 1/2" in diameter on the bottom. The pestle is fairly simple in design, and measures about 10 1/4" long, 1 1/2" in diameter on the top, and 3" in diameter on the bottom. The set is in nice but well used antique condition, with wear on the zinc, as well as stains, dents, chips, and a tight stable crack on the pestle. Small Antq. Die-Cut in Hand Carved Folk Art Frame

For sale is a wonderful antique die-cut that depicts a young boy holding a dove that has been placed in a fabulous hand carved folk art frame that I acquired in Nashville, Tennessee. There is chip carving, scroll work, and flowers in the corners, and even the hanger at the top is part of the design. I have never seen a frame quite like it. Rare Old Primitive Folk Art Mardi Gras Noisemaker

For sale is what I believe is a rare antique super primitive folk art Mardi Gras noisemaker that I acquired in Iowa. I believe that it dates back to about the 1920's, and there are 5 figures, 3 men and 2 women, and the on on top has a guitar. The piece is made of wood, fabric, and paper, is very naively painted, has tin disks that make a jingling noise when the lever at the bottom is moved. In addition, the shaft is made of bamboo. The piece measures about 33" long when the lever is pulled all the way down, and 12" in diameter. The figures are about 7"-7 1/2" tall. The piece is in primitive condition, with surface dirt, wear, and other signs of age, but where are you going to find another one? Mid 19th C. Wool on Homespun Sampler w/Cat & Poem

For sale is an absolutely charming antique mid 19th century folk art wool on homespun sampler that I acquired in Iowa. It has several different versions of the alphabet completed in different techniques, but what makes it extra special is the image of a cat on either a cushion or rug. The image is flanked by a poem that at far as I can tell says "Hear what the voice From Heaven declas(sp) For all the pious dead, Sweet is the memory Of their names and Soft their sleeping bed." The framed sampler measures about 17 3/4" x 17" with sight measurements of 16 1/2" x 15 3/4". It is in very nice antique condition, with no significant flaws. Small Antique Folk Art Roosters Scherenschnitte

For sale is a wonderful antique folk art scherenschnitte scissor cutting that depicts a pair of roosters that I acquired from a dealer in New York a few years ago. For sale is an antique folk art depiction of a young man courting a maiden by playing a stringed instrument, possibly a mandolin??? I acquired the piece in New Hampshire, and it is rendered on silk. The painting is housed in an appropriate period frame, and measures about 12 1/2" x 9 1/2" with sight measurements of 9 1/2" x 6 1/2". It looks like it says "Grennmother Knapp, Dress 1857" written in sepia ink, with the name "Lois Clark Knapp" written below in pencil, probably at a later date. For sale is a wonderful antique 19th century folk art cut and painted silhouette of a rather matronly woman that I acquired on a recent trip to the Midwest, East Coast, and New England. It is housed in what I believe is its original lemon gilt frame with the original eglomise glass that forms an oval around the image and has a rose in each corner. The original wire loop hanger is also still present. The framed piece measures about 5" x 4 1/4" with sight measurements of3 3/4" x 3". The image itself is about 3" x 1 1/4". It is in nice antique condition with a bit of wear on the eglomise design, as well as a crease in the glass when from when it was made. The frame shows expected age appropriate wear. For sale is a very sweet antique watercolor fraktur on lined paper that depicts 2 large blue and gray birds and 2 smaller yellow and blue birds perched on a bowl of fruit(?) flanked by red stars and pink flowers. This charming piece has been in my collection for several years, but it's time to find a new owner. In addition, there is writing in the lower right corner, but I can't quite make it out, but I think it is a signature. I think it was made in Pennsylvania, but I don't remember for sure. The painting is housed in a period veneer frame with its original wire loop hanger, and measures about 7 1/2" x 5 3/8" with sight measurements of 5 1/2" x 3 3/8". The large birds are each about 2 1/2" long. The piece is in nice antique condition, with light toning and a few tiny spots, and the frame has minor age related wear. For sale is a charming antique folk art scherenschnitte valentine that I acquired on a recent trip to the Midwest, East Coast, and New England. It has 8 hearts as well as other flourishes, and each heart has writing on it, all of which has been transcribed on the back. In addition, the information indicates that it was made by a woman named Maude Getz, who was born in Harrison County, Indiana in 1885. The image has been placed on a red background with scribed lines around the perimeter, and is housed in a vintage silver and black frame. The framed piece measures about 15 3/4" square with sight measurements of 13 1/2" square. The scherenschnitte itself is about 12 1/4" in diameter. Antique Burl Veneer Tea Caddy w/Working Orig. Key

For sale is an antique, likely late 18th to early 19th century burl veneer tea caddy that I acquired in Pennsylvania, although I think it is probably English. It is a sort of pyramid shape, and has mushroom button feet, as well as its original mother-of-pearl escutcheon and key, and the lock is in working condition. The piece measures about 5" tall, 7 3/8" long, and 4 1/8" wide, and is in nice antique condition, with signs of age and use, including a bit of warping causing the lid to not quite fit flat next to the box. In addition, 2 of the feet might be old replacements, as 2 of the feet have old screws to attach to the bottom, while the other 2 don't. Still, it is worthy of collection and display. 1892 Folk Art Memorial Painting w/4 Silhouettes

For sale is a very endearing antique folk art memorial painting that I acquired in Iowa recently. The central gravestone is flanked by a weeping willow on the right, and possibly a locust tree on the left, and there are 4 negative space silhouettes that face the grave, and each is numbered 1-4. Below the image are several areas of writing, including the year 1892 and the name Eliza R. Stone. To the left of the name, it says "painted by", but I'm not sure what it says to the left of the year. In addition, on the right, it says "4 facer". The piece is housed in a period frame with a metal loop hanger, and measures about 6" x 5", with sight measurements of 4 1/4" x 3 1/4". It is in nice antique condition, with toning, and a couple of creases, and the frame has expected wear, but no significant flaws, and it retains the original old glass. It should be noted that the painting was removed from the frame for examination, and the image was glued down to cardboard, so it couldn't be removed. The paper backing is a new replacement. Antique 1871 Folk Art Fanciful Bird Fraktur w/Name

For sale is a fabulous antique folk art fraktur on lined paper that depicts a rather fanciful bird that I acquired at an outdoor market in Pennsylvania, and that I believe may have been made there as well, although I'm not completely positive. The bird sits on a branch with other flora to its left, and the name "Rebecca, D, Yohe, Born April 5, 1871. The piece was removed for examination and to add acid free backing and writing on the back says "(Given name) Mabel Shaley, Baby born Sept the 21, 1890." I am not sure of the connection, if any, between that information and the fraktur itself. The piece is housed in a nice antique frame with the original glass, and that is how I purchased it. The framed piece measures about 13" x 11", with sight measurements of 9 1/2" x 7 1/2". The bird itself is about 4 1/2" long. The fraktur is in nice antique condition, with some toning and a few spots, as well as folds, possibly indicating that it was stored in a book. The frame also shows age, but no significant issues, and of course, the paper backing and wire hanger are new replacements. For sale is a charming antique late 19th century Ohio folk art watercolor that depicts a young man sitting on a tree stump fishing, with a young woman holding a basket of flowers behind him, and a dog sleeping nearby. There are trees and a fence behind them, and in the middle at the bottom, there is the signature "W.I. Swartz, Greenville". On the back there is information indicating that originally there had been a note stating that the painting was made for "Grandpa Harbison" when he was in school in Greenville, Ohio. It also states that the artist was William I. Swartz, who was born in Greenville, Ohio in 1865, along with additional information. The painting is done on lined paper, and is housed in a period frame with the original wavy glass, as well as the original wire loop hanger at the top. The framed piece measures about 11 1/2" x 9 1/2" with sight measurements of 9" x7". It is in nice antique condition, with expected signs of age on the frame, and some light brown stains as well as a brown stripe down the middle along a fold line. Dtd.1837 PA. Lancaster Co. Bird Fraktur Bookplate

For sale is a wonderful antique Pennsylvania Lancaster County folk art bird fraktur bookplate. I acquired it from a dealer of folk art in Robesonia, Pennsylvania. It is dated "January the 9,1837" and signed "Wm. Schools His Book". The bird is yellow with orange wings and a blue ring around its neck. The piece is housed in a wonderful and appropriate painted frame, although it is fairly recent, and there is information on the back indicating who framed it. The framed piece measures about 9 3/4" x 7 7/8" with sight measurements of 6 1/4" x 4 3/8". The bookplate itself is about 5" x 3 1/2", and is in nice but antique condition, with overall toning and a few water spots and other minor imperfections, but it displays very well. In addition, the information on the back indicates that it has been framed with museum quality glass that has 99% UV protection. For sale is a fabulous and rather unusual antique 19th century Pennsylvania primitive folk art slaw board or kraut cutter with a scalloped crest. It appears to be painted a very dark red almost brown, rather than being stained, and it has a single blade. It also appears to be constructed with hand cut nails, although there has been a repair or 2 over the years done with round head nails. In addition, there is a large hole for hanging, as well as what looks like a plug below the hole, possibly where there was a knot hole that had to be filled in. For sale is a wonderful antique sampler that I acquired from a sale in Pennsylvania, although I think that it might be English, as there is what looks like a crown at the bottom. I believe the sampler is done in silk thread on homespun linen. The piece is signed "Mary Gribbens's Sampler made in 1806", and there is a poem at the top that says "May I with innocence & peace, My fleeting moments spend, And when the tolls of life shall case (cease), With calmness meet my end." Elements of the design include birds, several types of flowers, trees, and what I think are sheep that are each inside a box at the bottom. It has a floral vine border, and is housed in a fairly modern black painted frame that makes a nice presentation. The framed sampler measures about 19 3/4" x 17 3/4" with sight measurements of 16 1/4" x 14 1/4". It is in very nice antique condition, with a tiny bit of leeching of the brown "F", and a tiny bit of damage along the top edge, barely noticeable, but mentioned for the sake of complete accuracy.
